Delight in these tender cookies infused with the warm flavors of apple cider and cinnamon, perfect for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Browned Butter

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (browned)
  • 4 tablespoons browned butter (reserved from above)

Reduced Apple Cider

  • 0.25 cup apple cider (reduced to ¼ cup)
  • 1 ¼ cups Brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (pure)
  • 1 large Egg (at room temperature)
  • ¼ cup Apple Sauce (unsweetened)

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon Baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground nutmeg

Additional Flavored Topping

  • 2 tablespoons browned butter (reserved from above)
  • 1 tablespoon regular apple cider (not reduced)
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 ½ tablespoons Apple cider (regular, not reduced)

Instructions 

  • Meltdown and cool the butter until amber; reserve 1 cup and 2 tbsp for the dough and topping.
  • Simmer 1 cup apple cider until reduced to ¼ cup; cool.
  • Mix dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg.
  • Whisk cooled browned butter, reduced cider, sugars, vanilla, egg, and apple sauce until smooth.
  • Fold dry ingredients into wet to form dough; scoop onto parchment-lined sheets.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 13-15 minutes; cool before serving.

Notes

Ensure not to over-mix the dough for tender cookies.
