Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Delicious homemade cinnamon rolls filled with fresh apples and topped with cream cheese frosting, perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup Milk (warmed to 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
  • 2 Large eggs (room temperature)
  • 4 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup White granulated sugar
  • 10 TBSP Unsalted butter (room temperature and cubed)

Filling

  • 2 1/2 Gala apples diced into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup White granulated sugar
  • 2 TBSP Water
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp Ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp Cornstarch

Brown Sugar Filling

  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar (packed light or dark)
  • 1 TBSP Ground cinnamon

Frosting

  • 4 oz Cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 4 TBSP Unsalted butter (browned)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp Pure vanilla extract

Instructions 

  • Activate yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar, then mix with eggs and flour to form dough. Let rise for 1 hour.
  • Prepare apple filling by cooking apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cornstarch until thickened.
  • Roll out dough, spread apple filling, then roll into a log and cut into slices. Place in baking dish and let rise for 20 minutes.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes until golden.
  • Mix cream cheese, browned butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla to make frosting. Spread over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

For best results, use fresh apples and ensure dough is properly risen before baking.
