A warm, comforting dessert featuring tender apples topped with a crunchy oat and cinnamon crumble.

Ingredients

Dough Topping

  • cup all purpose flour
  • cup old fashioned oats
  • cup light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted and cooled slightly)

Filling

  • 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (see note)
  • 3 tablespoons apple juice (preferred) or orange juice
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For serving

  • vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce (for serving)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch dish.
  • Mix flour, oats, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and melted butter for topping. Chill.
  • Combine apples, juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla. Spread in dish.
  • Crumble topping over apples. Cover loosely with foil and bake 20 mins.
  • Remove foil, bake 25-30 mins until golden and bubbling. Cool slightly.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
