Apple Turnovers with Cinnamon Glaze

Delight in flaky puff pastry filled with sweet apples and topped with a luscious cinnamon glaze for a perfect treat.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed (Most packages contain two sheets; use one.)
  • 2 tsp unsalted butter
  • 2 apples peeled & diced apples (Use sweet variety like Honey Crisp.)
  • 2-3 tbsp brown sugar (Adjust based on apple sweetness.)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg well beaten
  • to taste Turbinado sugar for sprinkling
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tsp milk (Add to desired glaze thickness.)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions 

  • Thaw puff pastry, then preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  • Cook apples with butter, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt until soft, then cool in refrigerator.
  • Cut pastry into 4 squares, seal edges with egg wash, fill with apple mixture, fold into triangles, and brush with egg. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden, then cool slightly.
  • Mix powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon to make glaze, then drizzle over turnovers before serving.

Notes

For a crispier crust, brush with egg wash and sprinkle turbinado sugar just before baking.
