Ingredients

Fruits

  • 4 pieces pears (Bosc, Anjou or firmer variety) (firm pears suitable for baking)
  • 0.25 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.125 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 0.125 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 0.5 whole lemon, juice only
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
  • 0.125 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract (or vanilla emulsion)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare baking dish with parchment or nonstick spray.
  • Peel and core pears if firm; leave skin on softer varieties. Place pears cut side up in dish and drizzle with lemon juice.
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Top with butter cubes and vanilla extract.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, then turn pears cut side down. Spoon caramel over tops and bake for an additional 20-50 minutes until soft and caramel thickened.
  • Serve warm with ice cream, yogurt, or nuts, spooning caramel over pears.

Notes

Use firmer pears for best results; softer pears may require less baking time.
