  • 1 cup apple cider (to be reduced)
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (for browning)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar topping)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar topping)
  • 0.25 cup melted butter (for brushing)
  • 0.5 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt
  • 1-2 tablespoons heavy cream (to thin, if needed)

Optional toppings

Instructions 

  • Reduce apple cider by half and set aside.
  • Brown the butter in a pan until golden, then let cool.
  • Mix reduced cider, browned butter, eggs, sugars, milk, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and combine.
  • Pipe or spoon batter into donut molds, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes.
  • Brush donuts with melted butter, toss in cinnamon sugar, and drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Ensure cider is reduced thoroughly for best flavor.
