Soft, buttery dinner rolls with a hint of tang from buttermilk, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg egg

Instructions 

  • Warm the buttermilk slightly, then mix in sugar and yeast; let sit 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Combine flour and salt in a large bowl.
  • Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg; stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth, then let rise 1-2 hours until doubled.
  • Punch down, divide into 12 pieces, shape into balls, place in a greased dish, cover, and rise 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), bake for 20-25 minutes until golden, then brush with melted butter.

Notes

For softer rolls, let them rise a bit longer before baking.
