A hearty and comforting dish, this classic goulash combines ground beef and elbow pasta in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 pound ground beef

Pasta

  • 2 cups elbow pasta, uncooked

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Canned Goods

  • 1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions 

  • Cook ground beef in a large pot over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat.
  • Add onion and garlic; sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper; bring to a simmer.
  • Add elbow pasta; cover and simmer for 15-18 minutes until tender.
  • Remove from heat; top with cheese if desired and let melt before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce.
