Instructions
Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a 9-inch pan, stir in brown sugar, and cook until bubbling. Arrange pear slices over the caramel.
Whisk dry ingredients in a bowl. Beat remaining butter with molasses, add eggs, then stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
Combine wet and dry ingredients gently. Pour batter over pears and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes.
Cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a plate. Serve warm or at room temperature with optional toppings.
