Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 egg egg
  • 4 oz bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup lightly crushed chopped almonds

Topping

  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions 

  • Toast almonds in a pan until light brown; cool completely.
  • Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside.
  • Cream butter, sugars, and salt until fluffy; add egg and mix well.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients; fold in chocolate and almonds.
  • Form dough into 12 balls, refrigerate 30 minutes, then bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes. Sprinkle with sea salt if desired.

Notes

Chilling the dough helps prevent spreading and enhances flavor.
