Indulge in rich, chewy double chocolate cookies with a perfect balance of sweetness and cocoa flavor.

Ingredients

Butter and Sugars

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar

Eggs and Vanilla

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (natural)
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional)

Wet and Add-ins

  • 2 tablespoons milk (more as needed, no more than 1/4 cup)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (divided)

Garnish

  • sea salt (for garnish, optional)

Instructions 

  • Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla, and mix.
  • Whisk dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Gradually add to wet mixture, then stir in 2 tbsp milk and 1.5 cups chocolate chips.
  • Chill dough for at least 3 hours. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), line baking sheets.
  • Scoop dough onto sheets, press remaining chips on top, sprinkle with sea salt if desired. Bake 12-15 minutes.
  • Cool cookies on sheets 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Chilling the dough enhances flavor and texture. Adjust milk as needed for consistency.
