Delight in these easy-to-make apple crisp bars with a sweet, spiced apple filling and crunchy oat topping.
Ingredients
Dough and topping
1 ½cupsold fashioned oats
¾cupplus 1 tablespoon flour(divided)
¾cuppacked brown sugar
2teaspoonsground cinnamon(divided)
1teaspoonground nutmeg(divided)
¾teaspoonground cloves(divided)
½teaspoonsalt
½teaspoonbaking soda
8tablespoonsbutter(melted)
Apple filling
6cupspeeled and thinly sliced baking apples(about 3 large apples)
½cupgranulated sugar
1tablespoonfresh lemon juice
1tablespoonflour(remaining)
1teaspoonground cinnamon(remaining)
½teaspoonground nutmeg(remaining)
¼teaspoonground cloves(remaining)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line an 8x8 baking dish with parchment.
Mix oats, 3/4 cup flour, brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and baking soda. Stir in melted butter. Set aside 1 cup of oat mixture. Press remaining into dish.
Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, remaining 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Spread over crust. Crumble reserved oat mixture on top.
Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncovered for 25-30 minutes until golden. Cool before slicing.
