Ingredients
Dough
6tablespoonsunsalted butter
3clovesgarlic, grated or pressed
1/3cupfresh herbs (chives, parsley, thyme)
1cupwarm water (110-115F)
2tablespoonssugar
2¼teaspoonsinstant yeast (one packet)
3tablespoonsgarlic herb butter
½cupmilk (2% or whole)
3½cupsall-purpose flour
1teaspoonkosher salt
Egg wash
1eggbeaten egg(with a splash of water)
Topping
Flaky sea saltflaky sea salt
Instructions
Melt butter, add garlic and herbs, cook until fragrant, then cool slightly.
Combine warm water and sugar, stir until dissolved, then add yeast. Warm milk, then mix with garlic-herb butter and add to yeast mixture.
Gradually add flour and salt, knead until smooth and elastic, then let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
Punch down dough, divide into 15 pieces, shape into balls, place in greased pan, and let rise until touching, about 20-30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400°F, brush rolls with egg wash, bake for 20-25 minutes until golden, then brush with remaining garlic herb butter and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
Notes
For best results, ensure milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
