Enjoy warm, fluffy dinner rolls made from scratch, perfect for any meal or special occasion.
Ingredients
Dough
4
cups
all-purpose flour
(plus extra for dusting)
2 ¼
teaspoons
active dry yeast
(1 packet, 7 g)
1
cup
warm milk
(about 110°F / 43°C)
¼
cup
granulated sugar
1
large
egg
¼
cup
unsalted butter, softened
1
teaspoon
salt
2
tablespoons
unsalted butter, melted
(for brushing after baking)
Instructions
Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
Mix yeast mixture, softened butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Let dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, until doubled, about 1–1.5 hours.
Punch down dough, divide into 12–15 pieces, shape into balls, and place on a baking sheet.
Let rolls rise until puffy, about 30–45 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden.
Remove from oven and brush with melted butter. Serve warm.
Notes
For softer rolls, cover with a clean towel during the second rise.
