Ingredients

olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

ground beef

  • 2 pounds extra-lean ground beef

onion

  • 6 ounces onion (finely chopped)

kosher salt

  • 2 teaspoons Diamond Crystal kosher salt

black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

garlic

  • 1 tablespoon garlic (minced)

mayonnaise

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

unsweetened ketchup

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened ketchup

mustard

  • 1 tablespoon mustard

cheddar cheese

  • 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese (shredded, divided)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F and grease a 2-quart dish.
  • Cook beef and onions in oil until browned, then drain excess liquids.
  • Stir in salt, pepper, garlic, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and 1 cup cheese.
  • Transfer to dish, top with remaining cheese, and bake 15 minutes or broil briefly until melted.
