Ingredients

Filling

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 apples peeled and diced apples
  • 1 tablespoon flour (optional) (to keep apples from sinking)

Topping

  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Cake batter

  • 2 1/4 cups plain flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 1/4 cup icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions 

  • Mix sugar, cinnamon, and flour; add apples and coat. Set aside.
  • Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for topping.
  • Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, milk, vanilla, eggs, and melted butter for batter; fold in apples.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, add topping, swirl with a knife.
  • Bake at 320°F (160°C) for 40-45 minutes, then glaze while warm.
