Instructions
Whisk sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan until combined.
Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until smooth.

Temper egg yolks with hot mixture, then return to saucepan and cook 2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla, then chill before serving.
